Habitus/Habit(at) is an evening of experimental video works that explores how our identities are shaped by the places we live, the routines we repeat, and the relationships we build. In a world increasingly mediated by technology, telepresence, and artificial intelligence, these artists reflect on what it means to connect with others and to navigate the shifting boundaries between private and public life.

Bringing together works that are poetic, humorous, intimate, and politically engaged, the program invites audiences to consider the invisible forces that influence our daily lives—from cultural traditions and personal rituals to the environments that define our sense of belonging. While each artist approaches these questions from a distinct perspective, together the works create a rich conversation about contemporary experience and the many ways we inhabit the world.

Habitus/Habit(at) es una noche de video experimental que explora cómo nuestras identidades son moldeadas por los lugares que habitamos, las rutinas que repetimos y las relaciones que construimos. En un mundo cada vez más mediado por la tecnología, la telepresencia y la inteligencia artificial, lxs artistas reunidxs en este programa reflexionan sobre lo que significa conectar con lxs demás y navegar los límites cambiantes entre la vida privada y la esfera pública.

Reuniendo obras poéticas, íntimas, humorísticas y políticamente comprometidas, el programa invita al público a considerar las fuerzas invisibles que influyen en nuestra vida cotidiana: desde las tradiciones culturales y los rituales personales hasta los entornos que definen nuestro sentido de pertenencia. Aunque cada artista aborda estas preguntas desde una perspectiva distinta, en conjunto las obras construyen una conversación rica sobre la experiencia contemporánea y las múltiples formas en que habitamos el mundo.

Times have changed, and very few times in history have been as clear as the last milestone of 2020. More than the pandemic itself, it has been the technology that has allowed us to connect and interact in new ways. The social and economic landscape has transformed significantly since then, thanks to a revolutionary upgrade of telepresence, its implications, and what we can do and from where. This rupture relegates presence to a secondary condition of Being. On top of that, the Artificial Intelligence boom is reshaping the ways we understand creativity, reality, and thought. In this context, artists of diverse backgrounds fill the gap created by this new level in our hypermediated society by making their social fabric a direct or tacit subject matter of their practice. Habitus/Habi(tat) seeks to bring forward video works that meditate on how we relate to the other, navigating the limits between the private and the public.

This exhibition is built upon a conceptual triangle drawn by the three concepts that name it. The artists selected for this project consciously or unconsciously address a part of their Habitus: the way we are predetermined to interact with the world based on our culture. This Habitus is given expression through the social behaviors reflected in the works, which inform our Habits; the routines, the customs that make the rhythm of our lives. Finally, these works are linked to our specific Habitats, charged with nuances and structures that provide meaning to the stories told. This frame is enriched by the artists’ diversity: racial, ethnic, sexual orientation, geographical, age, and moments in their careers.

Los tiempos han cambiado, y pocos momentos en la historia han marcado un antes y un después con tanta claridad como el hito de 2020. Más que la pandemia en sí, ha sido la tecnología la que nos ha permitido conectarnos e interactuar de nuevas maneras. Desde entonces, el panorama social y económico se ha transformado profundamente gracias a un salto revolucionario en la telepresencia, sus implicaciones y las posibilidades de lo que podemos hacer y desde dónde hacerlo. Esta ruptura relega la presencia física a una condición secundaria del ser. A ello se suma el auge de la inteligencia artificial, que está redefiniendo nuestra comprensión de la creatividad, la realidad y el pensamiento.

En este contexto, artistas de diversos orígenes llenan el vacío producido por este nuevo nivel de hipermediación al convertir el tejido social que los rodea en un tema explícito o implícito de sus prácticas. Habitus/Habit(at) reúne obras en video que meditan sobre la manera en que nos relacionamos con lxs demás, transitando los límites entre lo privado y lo público.

La exposición se construye a partir de un triángulo conceptual definido por las tres nociones que le dan nombre. Lxs artistas seleccionadxs abordan, de manera consciente o inconsciente, aspectos de su habitus: las formas en que nuestra cultura predetermina nuestra manera de relacionarnos con el mundo. Ese habitus se manifiesta a través de los comportamientos sociales reflejados en las obras, los cuales dan forma a nuestros hábitos: las rutinas y costumbres que marcan el ritmo de nuestras vidas. Finalmente, estas obras están ligadas a nuestros hábitats, espacios específicos cargados de matices y estructuras que otorgan sentido a las historias que cuentan. Este marco conceptual se enriquece con la diversidad de lxs artistas participantes: diversidad racial, étnica, geográfica, de orientación sexual, de edad y de momentos dentro de sus trayectorias profesionales.
