This program is supported by Hyde Park Art Center’s Artist Run Chicago Fund in partnership with Art Design Chicago, a citywide collaboration initiated by the Terra Foundation for American Art that highlights the city’s artistic heritage and creative communities.
As the spring artists-in-residence at Compound Yellow, alt_ is a collaboration between BIPOC artists Jon Veal and Jordan Campbell. From alt_’s website: “the group began in response to the trauma of surrounding communities and the belief that art could be used as a tool for healing.
Since its inception, alt_ has expanded into an artist-led, Chicago-based non-profit that is dedicated to revitalizing communities through art and culture. alt_ provides an alternative to the dominant cultural narrative, manifesting new opportunities in a time of need on the South and West Sides of Chicago.” Learn more about alt_ »
The Oak Park Public Library is excited to be partnering this spring with Compound Yellow, Oak Park's independent, multi-functional, artist-run space and artists' residency. To support our work with Compound Yellow, the Library is designating part of an A Library for All grant, awarded by the State of Illinois to the Library for public programming that amplifies the voices of local artists who identify as Black, Indigenous, People of Color (BIPOC). This month, the Library is proud to feature Compound Yellow's Spring Artists-in-Residence, Jon Veal and Jordan Campbell, founders of alt_ Chicago.
Nature120 is an anti-racist, inclusive collective for trauma-informed healing through nature play and wellness practices for children, families and communities. They provide airway focused healthcare and educational programs and free or low cost events that target healing in nature. Nature120 envisions communities filled with joy from healthy breathing, sound sleeping, good nutrition, and abundant nature spaces for play. Services are provided by licensed professionals and Nature120 welcomes all, regardless of income, ability level or experience as we co-create what it means to truly be a part of nature.
Nature120 is proud and grateful to partner with Compound Yellow as we share staff, enjoy and manage the beloved chickens, steward our prairie gardens and share our campuses for music, programming and community building.
Is your art BIG enough to provide a human service? Is your human service BOLD enough to be art?
A registered Not For Profit arts education, advocacy, and service organization in the state of Illinois. We connect creative artists and creative arts therapists with human service agencies for mutual support and enhancement. Agencies open up their spaces for practices, performances, and workshops - for free, or at a reduced cost. Artists and therapists trade use of the space for services/performances provided to the agencies - for free, or at a reduced cost. Social networking and entrepreneurship is supported in the process of collaboration and through a co-mingling of artistic and human service communities. Arts-in-service is thus created where advocacy for the arts and advocacy for those served by agencies is combined and made greater through the establishment of new and innovative partnerships.
Thank you OPAAC for your funding and support of Compound Yellow! Because of funders and supporters like you we are able to continue offering dynamic and community focused art programing here at Compound Yellow.
