Sinner's Friend is an old-time string band with a percussive twist. With traditional tunes, unexpected covers, and original songs, all members hail from Chicago: Aron Packer (banjo), Michael Dinges (guitar), Quinn Kearney (tablas), Paul Zimmermann (vocals, percussion), and Paul Jones (fiddle).
Bios
Aron Packer is the banjo player in Sinner’s Friend. In his teens
and twenties he studied classical guitar and worked in a record
store after high school. While his interest in folk music and music in general has been life long, he is also interested in folk art and art in general. For 25 years Packer had multiple galleries in the Chicago area. In 2015 he closed Packer Schopf Gallery on West Lake Street after nearly a decade of ambitious shows at his final location. Since 2018 He has been in the auction business. Currently Aron is the Director and Specialist of Contemporary and Outsider Art at Potter and Potter Auctions.

Michael Dinges is a visual artist and has exhibited in many shows in the U.S. and in other countries. His work is primarily influenced by the 19th century whaler’s art of scrimshaw and the WWl soldier’s craft of trench art as a strategy to explore
contemporary issues. Michael also grew up listening to Folk
Music and reading Mad Magazine. He knew from the start that a
message of joy, sorrow or change was integral to the genre. He
writes songs that reflect this point of view and has played with
some of the members of the band for over 20 years.

Quinn Kearney has been playing tablas in Sinner’s Friend since
2016, bringing a unique rhythmic voice to the band’s sound. His
deep passion for music and years of tabla study infuse the
group’s traditional old-time roots with a rich world music dimension. Quinn’s playing bridges genres, adding texture and depth to both the band’s reimagined folk tunes and its original compositions. Outside the band, Quinn is the co-founder of yogaview, widely regarded as the preeminent yoga studio in the Chicagoland area, with locations in Chicago and Wilmette. His lifelong commitment to mindfulness and creativity resonates through his music, making him an integral part of Sinner’s Friend’s distinctive blend of tradition and innovation.

Paul Zimmermann is a one of a kind musician, with the ability to
work in a myriad of genres with ease and integrity, from folk to
rock & roll, theatre to jazz. Music is in his genes. His career as a professional started at age 17. With a grandmother and mother who played piano by ear and a father who was a self taught guitar and banjo player, music was all around him from a very young age, as he tagged along to ’hootenannies’ with his father singing classic Americana folk as a child. He has performed with Bobby McFerrin, David Byrne, New York Voices & Dee Alexander, among many other amazing musicians. He is thrilled to be a part of Sinner’s Friend, feeling the full circle of reigniting a passion for this genre. Lastly, he believes our current president is a big beautiful idiot.
Paul Jones has been playing fiddle with Sinner's Friend for a year now and is pleased to add his voice to the band's unique sound. A musician and songwriter living in the beautifully complicated city of Chicago, he plays music of all genres and style—and needs it now more than ever.
